Testing
Functional testing can be performed to gain insight and understanding around specific imbalances in the body that may be underlying symptoms. Testing can be a useful way to take the guesswork out of rebalancing bodily systems and can save time and money by allowing us to identify and target the root cause faster. Functional tests are performed by industry-recognised laboratories using various organic samples (serum, saliva, urine or stool).
Functional tests include:
-
Gut microbes digest fiber from your food, shape your immune system (80% of our immune system is in the gut), and help protect you from pathogens. Research on the gut-brain axis has also established that certain strains of gut bacteria produce neurotransmitters which improve both cognitive and mental health. When we have an imbalance in our gut microbiome, this can contribute to various conditions related to mood, immune function, digestion, skin, and weight regulation. Stool testing can help to pinpoint specific imbalances in the gut, which we can then focus on to restore balance.
-
Food sensitivity testing can be performed to discover which foods are triggering an unwanted immune response. Learn how to successfully complete an elimination diet and reintroduce the foods back into your diet so you no longer react to them. This is a finger prick test completed at home.
-
Hormone imbalances can lead to symptoms such as weight gain/loss, bloating, constipation, poor skin condition, acne, anxiety, disturbed sleep, headaches, brain fog, fatigue and more. The DUTCH Hormone test enables us to see a complete picture of hormone activity.
Unlike blood tests which capture a snapshot, DUTCH testing looks at oestrogen, progesterone, androgens and cortisol levels over a set period of time. Results then allow us to create a unique treatment plan for you.

Nutritional Therapists and Dietitians are experts in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage disease. They advise people on what to eat in order to support a healthy lifestyle or achieve a specific health-related goal. Nutritional Therapists in Ireland must be registered with NTOI (the professional association supporting qualified Nutritional Therapists in Ireland.)
One distinct difference is that Nutritional Therapists don’t work in hospital settings and are not trained in critical care nutrition management. More info in this link
